Free2Wheel - Wheelchair travel guide for India
Fri, Aug 29, 2008 -
Free2Wheel is an excellent website dedicated to providing travel guides and reviews of wheelchair access in India for people planning trips to the region.
India has long been a vibrant and exciting destination for tourists, remaining fresh and relatively untouched the country evokes romantic thoughts of backpacking and journeys of discovery. Unfortunately the lack of expansion and development means that while India is still a gem of a tourist destination, it has trailed behind in providing access to people with disabilities.
The country has long been notorious for it’s lack of wheelchair access (even the Taj Mahal, the most visited tourist destination in India, is still inaccessible to wheelchair users), but now the Indian Tourist Agency is working hard to promote India as a destination for people with disabilities and improve the access and awareness throughout the country.
At the moment Free2Wheel has over 1600 listings of attractions and places of interest, each with a review, accessibility rating and information on wheelchair accessibility. The majority of listings are based around Delhi and provide information on everything from hotels and nightclubs to historical sites and even currency exchanges with wheelchair counters.
Traveling to more adventurous destinations like India has often meant simply expecting nothing to be accessible, now with Free2Wheel and the ongoing efforts of the Indian Tourist Board things look set to become easier for people in wheelchairs at last. India is an amazing country and ripe for exploration.
