BOMA Off Road Wheelchair
Wed, Feb 20, 2008 -
A UK company call Molten Rock have produced a pretty gnarly looking off-road wheelchair they are calling the BOMA.
This four wheeled beast looks more than capable of tackling harder terrain than you would normally attempt in an everyday chair and is fitted with independent suspension for when you hit those rough spots taking rover for a walk, or exploring Kenya.
Sit back and enjoy that comfortable ride while two 36V motors provide power to the rear wheels, ensuring that rover will have to keep up with your top speed of 8mph.
This thing look’s pretty fun and will definitely appeal to the adventurous quads out there who are looking for an off-road option that is easy on the arms. The details on the website are pretty slim, there is no mention of things like the range per charge or re-charge times, but the batteries can be topped up on the go via regenerative charging when using the brakes.
It doesn’t look as if there’s option to manually power the chair if you do find yourself in the middle of nowhere with a flat battery, and it looks as if it is a heavy beast so dont stray too far from the power outlet.
The biggest factor with the BOMA is the cost, at £5,995 for the basic chair (minus the £485 lights option) it’s pretty steep. For the same price you could probably get a quad bike or team of sherpas to take you wherever you want.

We manufacture the Boma here in the UK. Range off road is between 10 & 14 miles depending on terrain. Charging time is 3 hours per battery (the chair runs on two batteries).
Batteries are sealed units that can be taken off the chair and swapped in seconds if you want to go further. Drop us a line if you have any questions! Cheers, Chris
