Flickr Group - DIY Wheelchair Bike
Wed, Apr 16, 2008 -
So what do you do when you’re on holiday and dont have access to a hand-bike to fly down the hills and have some fun. Well if you have as much ingenuity (and old bikes at lying around, not to mention an angle grinder) as Flickr Group Member Rushbypics then you just cut an old bike in half and stick it on the front of a wheelchair.
The result is a frightening (and by frightening, we mean awesome) but fun looking wheelchair/bike mutant that looks crazier than a box of frogs. Made for “one crazy paraplegic” named ‘T’, this thing is simply the front end of an old bike attached to his wheelchair. No crank or propulsion for going uphill, other than using the wheelchair as normal, and just the bikes front brake for slowing down. Apparently the brake got worn out pretty quickly, which doesn’t surprise us at all.
Hey ‘T’, you’re our kinda guy, way to get after it! 15045 pushingthelimits man-points to you sir. If you’re out there get it touch.
That goes for all you other loyal readers, yeah both of you, let us know of any homemade contraptions or other wheelchair related craziness. Head on over to the Flickr Group and post your pics and as always we’ll pick the best each week and post them here on the site.
