Adaptions, Gear, Wheelchairs

If you are looking to go all out and want a one of a kind wheelchair then the option of having a custom made wheelchair made from scratch isn’t as crazy, or expensive as it sounds.

Lasher Sport, who narrowly missed the top spot in our 5 Best All-Terrain Wheelchairs, are making some exceptionally cool and sexy wheelchairs up in Alaska. Lasher actually hand make each wheelchair they sell individually for each client, so getting them to add custom pieces of design to the process isn’t a big deal at all.

Apart from making some great wheelchairs readily available to everyone, Lasher also have a little fun once in a while and make dedicated show chairs to display their talents and let people see what is possible when it comes to customizing a wheelchair.

Their ‘Chopper’ design was inspired by the trike designed for paraplegic Bryan King by TV show Orange County Choppers, and matching the design perfectly.

The Chopper chair has many matching components as the original OCC Trike; matching ‘Recluse’ wheels, ‘exhaust’ and tail pipe tips, skeleton painted backrest, Maltese cross tube ends, hand sewn flame embroidered leather backrest and seat, and disk brakes to name but a few similarities. They also came up with a dragon inspired chair for show’s, which has got to be one of the most impressive looking manual wheelchairs ever, if Jackie Chan was in a wheelchair, he’d be kicking ass from the Dragon!

The Dragon Chair was developed soley to be a show chair. We wanted to take the BT-G Tribal chair to the limit, and thus the Dragon chair was conceived. In Asia, dragons and the red-and-black colour scheme are considered good luck as well as the Chinese symbol foot rest. All dragons and metal cut-outs were cut with an abrasive water jet CNC machine.

Although both the Chopper and Dragon are one off designs that aren’t available right now, they are just customized versions of chairs from Lasher’s current line up, and they are more than happy to talk to customers and integrate personal details into their chairs.

No word yet on whether they can incorporate death lasers and particle cannons though.
