Trekinetic All-Terrain Wheelchair has the best advertising department
Wed, Sep 3, 2008 -
When Mike Spindle set out to design a new type of wheelchair he didn’t play by the same old boring design rules, he made his own and the result was the excellent Trekinetic K2 all-terrain wheelchair. We’ve talked about the trekinetic before, and it made the #5 spot in our list of the best manual off-road wheelchairs, if you didn’t already know, it looks pretty sweet too:

Mike put more than his experience as a formula one racing car designer into developing the K2 Trekinetic, he put pretty much his entire life into it, even re-mortgaging his house rather than giving up when initial prototypes needed redesigns and he ran out of funding. The result was a truly new and unique wheelchair design that has garnered attention around the world. The press attention came in pretty handy too, after initial development and production, Trekinetic had no money left for an advertising budget.
Now though Trekinetic have begun advertising, and true to form they still aren’t sticking to the same old boring rules.
Their clever use of rocky, off-road silhouettes strategically placed on disabled toilets is both eye-catching and inspiring:
One of the coolest things about the Trekinetic is that it’s actually cool. Not just because of it’s shiny design or because it gives wheelchair users an easy way get off-road. Thanks to the press interest worldwide in the Trekinetic, the general able-bodied public are begining to realize that disabled people arent all sickly weaklings confined to hospital wards.
Just a few years ago seeing a disabled symbol mixed with an outline of rocky, mountainous ground would of seemed like a cruel joke using juxtaposition, Trekinetic have made it look completely normal, and awesome. Which means they are breaking barriers in more than just design.
If anyone else spots these out in the wild be sure to take a snap (maybe on your iPhone) and let us know. Either that or just steal it and send it to us so we can have it on our wall. Seriously, we want one.
