We've talked about paraplegic motorbike adaptions before, and we know there are a lot of you petrol heads out there looking for ways to get back on two wheels again. There just doesnt seem to be any commercial solutions on the market, or even much information on DIY projects. We know people have adapted their bikes to be used by people in wheelchairs, we just haven't had many details, so we were really impressed when we saw the website of an Australian engineering student.
If the Martin Conquest MotorTrike doesn't do it for you, and you still want to get back on the road in something other than a car then how about getting on your bike. There is no doubt that a significant number of people suffering SCI injuries got hurt in motorbike accidents, yet the enjoyment of hitting the road on two wheels is still a huge draw form people in wheelchairs.
One for the petrol-heads. The Martin Conquest is a 1130cc, 83bhp motorbike tricycle with a rear ramp to allow a wheelchair user to mount up and take to the open road while still in their wheelchair. No word on if it has a stereo system so you can blare out 'Born To Be Wild' while cruising country lanes though.
So remember back when we said the Superfourin was the world's most badass all-terrain ATV/Wheelchair, yeah, turns out we were wrong about that. Dont get us wrong, the Superfourin is amazing, and once the German firm that makes them takes up our suggestion to fit them with lasers we will totally be buying 10 and taking over the world.
